The Joško Gvardiol Jersey Lineup
Defenders are not supposed to sell shirts. Gvardiol is the exception, and the reason is not complicated: Manchester City paid £77 million for him in 2023, which made him the most expensive defender in the history of the game, and he then went and justified it by being named the club's Player of the Season for 2024/25. Putting 24 on the back of a City shirt is a statement about how you watch football, not just who you support.
Josko Gvardiol is left-footed, plays centre-back or left-back, and scores more than a defender should. He is also the reason a lot of people bought a Croatia shirt in 2022: at 20 years old, he scored in the 2-1 third-place win over Morocco, becoming the youngest player ever to score for Croatia at a major tournament, and took Man of the Match. Born in Srednjaci in Zagreb to a fisherman father, he came close to quitting Dinamo's academy to work in a fish market. He did not.
The Sash: Puma's 25/26 Home
The Gvardiol 25/26 Home is the shirt to start with, and it is the most interesting City home kit Puma has made. For the first time in the club's history, the sash appears on a home shirt. The diagonal white stripe belongs to City's away days of the 1970s, worn by Mike Summerbee, Colin Bell, Francis Lee and Tony Book, and it has never crossed over until now. It sits across a Team Light Blue base, with EPL and sponsor patches applied. It is currently down from $140 to $98.
Every City Shirt Here Is a Date
Puma treats each City kit as a specific reference, which turns this collection into something closer to a design archive than a rack of colorways.
The 24/25 away, in New Navy and Yellow Glow, rebuilds the 1998/99 shirt: wide neon yellow and navy horizontal stripes with thinner sky blue bands between them, a retro collar, and "30 May 1999" printed inside the neck, the day City beat Gillingham on penalties to climb out of the third tier. Both the Authentic and the long sleeve are marked down here, the long sleeve to $73 from $146.
The 24/25 home takes 0161, Manchester's area code, and threads a graffiti-inspired version of it through the collar and cuffs. The 23/24 third is the electric spark kit, dark navy shot through with lightning and neon pink logos. Every one of them is dryCELL, sewn-on badge, officially licensed.
Authentic or Replica
Puma's official Authentic shirts use lighter, player-spec construction and sit closer to the body. The replica builds keep the same design in a relaxed cut with dryCELL sweat-wicking and come in cheaper. If you plan to play in it, go Authentic. If it is going to be worn to a match or around town, replica is the smarter buy, especially at the prices on the 24/25 range.
Gvardiol broke his tibia against Chelsea in January 2026 and had surgery, then returned in May well ahead of what most people expected and made Croatia's World Cup squad anyway. That is worth knowing if you are buying his shirt as a gift for someone who followed that season. Filling out a City shelf? Add Mateo Kovačić jerseys or Jérémy Doku jerseys. Following the Vatreni?
