FAQ's

What happened to the Future Z?

Puma folded it back into the standard Future line, so the current Future carries what the Z was built for.

Did the Future ever have customizable lacing?

Yes. NetFit ran on earlier generations and let you lace the upper several ways; current models use the FUZIONFIT construction instead.

Puma Future Soccer Cleats

The Future is Puma's playmaker silo. Where the Ultra chases speed, this one is built for the player who works in tight space: an adaptive upper that wraps the foot, textured grip zones across the forefoot for a controlled touch, and an outsole tuned for agility and quick movement rather than straight-line pace, which suits a playmaker style of game. Neymar Jr. has been the face of it for most of its life.

Ultimate, Pro, Match and Play

Puma runs four levels and the shape stays consistent through all of them. Ultimate is the top build with the full FUZIONFIT technology and the most refined outsole, and it is what the athletes on Puma contracts actually wear. Pro keeps the silhouette and most of the feel with simpler materials. Match is the volume tier for weekly soccer, and Play is the entry point where most youth sizing lands.

The performance gap between them is narrower than the price gap suggests, so a Match model in the current generation is usually a better buy than an Ultimate from two releases back. Puma also names pack editions, so you will see a Future 9 Match Creativity or a Pro Brilliance sitting alongside the standard colorways in the collection.

Future 9, Future 8 and the Future Z

Future 9 is the current generation. Future 8 and Future 7 sit behind it and still turn up in searches, which is worth knowing because they discount hard once a new release lands and the design intent has not changed between them. The Future Z was a separate agility-focused model that ran alongside the standard Future until Puma consolidated the two into one line, so if you are searching for a Future Z you are really looking for a current Future.

Older numbered models like the 3.4 come from the tier system Puma used before Ultimate, Pro, Match and Play, and equate roughly to the Match and Play levels today.

Firm Ground, Turf and Fit

Most Future models ship on a combined FG/AG plate that handles natural grass and synthetic pitches on the same pair. Puma FG models give firmer traction on dry natural grass, and Puma turf shoes swap studs for rubber nubs on short synthetic surfaces, which is the sensible second pair if your team trains on a turf field weekly. On fit, the Future sits adaptive without being tight, wider than an Ultra and narrower than a King, and it suits a medium to slightly wide foot shape. Puma sizing runs close to true.

Colorways and How the Future Compares

Black is the most searched Future finish by a distance; black Puma cleats covers that run, with grey and purple pack releases alongside it. Within the wider Puma range, choose Future for creativity and close control, Ultra for speed, and King for heritage leather comfort on a wider foot.
