Yes on most artificial turf: Nike lists its multi-ground cleats for grass or artificial turf. On older, short-pile turf, a turf shoe is the better match.
Yes, on firm natural grass, whether dry or slightly damp. Choose a soft ground cleat for mud.
Multi-ground soccer cleats are made for players whose week moves between surfaces: a grass field for games, a synthetic field for practice. Nike describes its multi-ground cleats as "ideal all-around cleats for grass or artificial turf," and its product pages list them for use on natural and synthetic surfaces.
Retailers often shorten the label to FG/MG, meaning a firm ground plate that also works on artificial grass. Pro: Direct notes that MG makes sense for players whose week is split between different fields, and that versatility suits anyone who wants one pair for firm grass and artificial grass.
adidas describes multi-ground soles as using short studs that are both bladed and conical, and Pro: Direct notes that MG plates usually spread shorter molded studs more evenly than a pure FG plate. Firm ground (FG) cleats use more pronounced studs for natural grass.
Artificial ground (AG) cleats use slightly shorter studs than FG, in a pattern Nike says reduces pressure points on harder synthetic turf. Turf shoes swap studs for many small rubber nubs. Because plates vary by brand and model, treat FG/MG as a model-specific label and check the product details for the surface each pair is rated for.
Most of this collection is Nike, across Mercurial Superfly speed cleats, Phantom cleats such as the Phantom Luna II and Phantom 6, and the Tiempo Legend 10. Nike offers multi-ground cleats at its Academy and Club tiers, which come in adult and kids' sizes, while Nike's multi-ground range includes no Elite models.
On nike.com, the current Tiempo Maestro Club MG pairs bladed studs for grip on artificial and natural grass with conical studs that help you plant and pivot.

adidas labels its versions Firm/Multi-Ground and builds them into its League and Club tiers. Here you'll find Copa Pure III League in adult and kids' sizes, plus kids' F50 League and Goletto IX Laceless. On its current Copa Pure IV Club FG/MG, adidas says the plate gives traction on natural grass fields and many types of artificial grass, and it describes the Goletto IX kids' plate as keeping you quick on firm ground and artificial grass.
An FG/MG cleat is a compromise, and it has limits. On soft, muddy grass, it won't bite like a soft ground cleat. Nike calls AG cleats perfect for 3G and 4G fields, so frequent players on long-pile artificial grass can compare our artificial ground soccer cleats. On older, shorter turf, turf soccer shoes suit the surface better. For dry grass only, see our firm ground soccer cleats. Nike notes that multi-ground cleats are not for indoor courts or concrete, so use indoor soccer shoes there.
More than a third of this collection is junior sizing. Pro: Direct suggests that for youth players on grass, FG or MG versions usually make the most sense, and that MG can be handy when one pair needs to cover firm grass and certain artificial surfaces.
