Major news outlets report that LAFC are set to land a global star: Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung‑min. On August 6 2025, the club confirmed it had signed the 33‑year‑old South Korea captain from Tottenham for a transfer fee of about 26.5 million dollars, the largest incoming transfer in Major League Soccer history. He will occupy a Designated Player slot and is under contract through 2027, with options that could extend the deal as far as 2029. LAFC co‑president John Thorrington praised Son as a global icon whose ambition, ability and character match the club’s values, while Son said he was proud to join a team with big ambitions in Los Angeles and is eager to help them win trophies.
Son arrives after a decade in North London where he became one of Tottenham’s all‑time greats, scoring 173 goals in 454 appearances and winning the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021‑22 season. He previously starred in the Bundesliga for Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen before joining Spurs in 2015. Beyond his club exploits, Son has 51 goals in 134 caps for South Korea, making him one of his country’s most prolific internationals. LAFC, winners of the 2022 MLS Cup, believe his pace, finishing ability and star power will not only bolster their attack but also raise Major League Soccer’s profile worldwide.
